About this tool
Product photos, profile pictures and marketing graphics often need a clean cut-out. This tool runs a segmentation model directly in your browser to separate the subject from the background and outputs a transparent PNG. The model (tens of megabytes) downloads once on first use and is then cached by your browser.
Good to know
- Requires a modern browser with WebAssembly; older phones may be slow or run out of memory on very large images.
- The model files load from the IMG.LY CDN by default (configurable to self-host).
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The image is processed on your device. Only the model files are downloaded to your browser.
Why is the first run slow?
The AI model has to download and initialise once. Later runs in the same browser are much faster.
What images work best?
Photos with a clearly separated subject — products, people, animals — and good lighting. Fine hair, glass and very busy backgrounds are harder.
Is Image Background Remover private?
Yes. This tool processes files entirely in your browser, so your files are not uploaded to our servers.
