About this tool
Developers often find images stored as Base64 in API responses, databases, HTML or CSS. Paste the string (with or without the data:image/… prefix) or load a .txt file, and the tool decodes it in your browser. It checks the decoded bytes to identify the real format — PNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF, BMP or SVG — and you can keep that format or convert to PNG, JPG or WEBP.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to remove the data:image prefix?
No. Both a full data URI and the bare Base64 characters work. Spaces and line breaks are ignored, and URL-safe Base64 is accepted.
Why does it say the data is not an image?
The decoded bytes did not match a supported image format. The text may be truncated, or it may encode something else, such as a PDF.
Is Base64 to Image private?
Yes. This tool processes files entirely in your browser, so your files are not uploaded to our servers.
